Common questions

Asked before every first call.

Is the first conversation really free?

Yes, and it is confidential. You describe the situation, we tell you whether an investigation is likely to help, roughly what it would involve and what it would cost. There is no charge for that call and no obligation at the end of it.

Will anyone find out I hired an investigator?

Not from us. Discretion is the product. We agree on the first call how and when it is safe to contact you, we never identify ourselves to a subject, and reports go to you alone.

What does an investigation cost?

It depends entirely on what is involved - a records search and a multi-week surveillance operation are not comparable. What we will not do is quote a number before we understand the case. You get a written scope and cost before anything starts, and we will tell you if we think you are about to spend money for nothing.

Are you licensed?

Yes. A True P.I. holds Texas license #A12818 and the agency is insured and bonded. Licensing is a legal requirement for investigative work in Texas and anyone offering to do it without a license is a problem you do not need attached to your case.

Can you access phone records, bank accounts or messages?

No, and neither can anybody else who is operating lawfully. Obtaining telephone records by pretext is a federal crime, financial records are protected, and accessing an account you do not own is unauthorised access. An investigator who offers any of it is offering to hand the other side an argument that ends your case.

Can you put a GPS tracker on a car?

Only where it is lawful - which generally means a vehicle you own, such as a company fleet vehicle. In Texas it is an offense to install a tracking device on a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. If the vehicle is not yours, we will say no and then tell you what can be done instead.

How long will my case take?

Records searches are usually days. Surveillance depends on the subject and on how predictable their pattern is - some cases resolve in one well-chosen evening and some run for weeks. You will get an honest estimate before you commit, and an update if it changes.

Do you work with attorneys?

Constantly. Where a matter is in litigation it is usually better for the firm to engage us rather than the client, and the work is more focused when counsel tells us what the case actually needs.

Do you work outside the four cities?

Yes. A True P.I. covers the whole state, from the Red River to the Rio Grande. Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio are where most cases start, not where they stop. Records and asset work is run nationally.

What if I am not sure I need an investigator?

That is the most common reason people hesitate, and it is exactly what the free consultation is for. A fair number of those calls end with us saying that what you need is an attorney, or a police report, or nothing at all.

Still not sure

The honest version.

A fair number of the calls this agency takes end with us saying that an investigation is not what you need - that the answer is an attorney, or a police report, or waiting a week. Nobody is charged for that conversation and nobody is talked into anything. If you are weighing it up, the call costs you nothing except the twenty minutes.

Where we work
