What this is
Harassment Investigations, in plain terms.
There are two very different people who call about this. One is an employer or their counsel who needs a complaint investigated by somebody who does not report to anyone involved. The other is a person who is being harassed and cannot get anybody to take it seriously without documentation.
Both need the same thing: a neutral record. For an employer, an internal investigation run by a manager who knows everyone is the finding that gets picked apart later. For an individual, a documented pattern is what turns "he keeps doing this" into something a court, an employer or the police can act on.
The work
What actually gets done.
- Interview the complainant, the respondent and every witness, separately and on the record.
- Collect and preserve documentary evidence, including communications lawfully available.
- Establish a timeline and identify corroboration and contradiction.
- Check for prior complaints and for a pattern.
- For individuals, document a course of conduct with dates, times and evidence.
- Deliver findings of fact, and leave the employment and legal decisions where they belong.
Corporate
Independent, and documented that way.
A finding only holds if the person who made it had no stake in it. That is what an outside investigator is for, and it is why the methodology is written down alongside the conclusion.
What you get
At the end of it.
- A written report of findings of fact, with the basis for each one.
- Interview records and the documentary evidence collected.
- A timeline that reads clearly to somebody who was not there.
- An investigator who can be examined on their own methodology.
When people call
The three situations we hear most.
A complaint has been made
The moment an employer is on notice, how the investigation is done starts to matter as much as what it finds.
Nobody internal can investigate it neutrally
Small organizations often have nobody who is not connected to it.
You are being harassed and need a record
A documented pattern is what changes the response you get.
Questions
About this service.
Will you decide who is telling the truth?
We make findings of fact and state the basis for each. Credibility assessments are part of that where the evidence supports one. What we do not do is make your employment decision for you.
Is an outside investigator really necessary?
When the complaint is serious, when the respondent is senior, or when the organization is small enough that everyone is connected - yes. Independence is much of what makes the finding hold.
I am being stalked. Is that the same service?
Related. For an individual we document the course of conduct and identify the person where they are unknown, which is usually what a protective order application or a police report needs.
Is the first conversation really free?
Yes, and it is confidential. You describe the situation, we tell you whether an investigation is likely to help, roughly what it would involve and what it would cost. There is no charge for that call and no obligation at the end of it.
